Gateway Select is an innovative talent pathway for those seeking to become pilots at JetBlue. This particular Gateway Program will allow an applicant, if successful, to learn with us from the beginning and become a JetBlue pilot after completing a rigorous training program.
This unique, accessible and cost effective JetBlue Pilot Gateway Program will take a more competency-based approach to becoming a professional pilot. The Program will optimize the training of prospective airline pilots by offering early exposure to multi-crew/multi-engine operations, full motion simulator training, crew resource management, and threat and error management. Once meeting all program requirements, including the FAA's 1,500 flight-hour requirement, pilots will become a new hire at JetBlue. At that time, graduates will go through the same orientation and six-week instruction that all first officers complete.
If accepted into the program, students follow a multi-phase training sequence over the course of three-four years.
  • Foundation Course: Introduction to JetBlue and flying
  • Primary Training: Private Pilot through Commercial Multi-Engine Certificate
  • Airline Preparation Course: Jet training at JetBlue University
  • Instructor Training: CFI/CFII Training
  • Employment with CAE as a Flight Instructor
  • New Hire Training as a JetBlue First Officer

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be 23 years old by the completion of the approximate 3.5-year program.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a First-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States by the end of training.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

JetBlue Internship | JET Intern Safety (Environmental, Safety and Data Programs), NY

Job Description

The JetBlue Emerging Talent (JET) internship program provides skill & professional development through participation in the developing real-world business solutions that support the delivery of strategic business initiatives. Throughout the program, interns participate in a robust programming including professional development activities, cross-functional projects, senior leader exposure, networking, and community service. The JET Program provides interns the opportunity to immerse themselves into the aviation industry while developing specific career interest or areas of study.

The JET Intern Safety supports JetBlue’s Office of Safety. The Intern will be responsible for tasks and projects as assigned, including but limited to reviewing/analyzing/trending/visualizing data collected by JetBlue’s Assurance programs (Environmental Health and Safety and Business Intelligence) to support Environmental Management System (EMS) expansion, industry best practices research, database programming, and administrative meetings/presentations. The Intern must be comfortable working in a fast paced, non-routine work environment and must be an engaging professional whose personal values match JetBlue’s values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun.


Duties and Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:

  • Conduct industry research, compile data, and prepare materials for consideration and draft presentations to explain collected data, upcoming initiatives

  • Import, categorize and assess Safety reports; conduct follow up requests for information to aid in injury investigations and populating Safety Risk Assessments

  • Enter and manage data in the Safety Database; including FAA Wildlife Mitigation program

  • Learn database functional programming language to efficiently extract, manipulate and narrate data

  • Create and maintain spreadsheets, dashboards, charts, and information regarding performance metrics

  • Validate events captured through the Flight Operational Quality assurance (FOQA) program

  • Support fatigue risk management activity, including data processing, analysis, and human performance research

  • Update the Safety intranet site, including layout, graphics and content

  • Other administrative functions as needed such as attending meetings to record minutes, making travel arrangements, and performing general office duties

  • Assist with ad hoc requests and projects as needed


Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited college or university in an aviation safety, environmental studies, human factors, health science, industrial hygiene or other related field

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to handle confidential information

  • Ability to learn and understand new software in detail

  • Ability to dissect complex tasks and coordinate work among multiple stakeholders

  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize, and manage multiple activities in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)

  • Must be able to acquire and maintain valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States

  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol test

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

  • Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based upon industry Best Practices, accounting for individual tasks and workflows in Safety and Environmental disciplines

  • Understanding of airline compliance standards in the United States, with respect to EPA and NEPA

  • Prior working experience at a public or private organization, performing in an analytical role

  • Academic course experience in the areas of environmental studies, computer science, human factors, health science, incident investigations, training curricula, aviation safety, and/or statistics

  • Holds FAA Airman Certification (Pilot’s License, AMT License, Dispatcher License) or has undertaken equivalent academic courses for pre-requisite aviation knowledge

  • Experience with content management systems such as SharePoint, Spotfire and Tableau

  • Ability to work effectively with professionals from diverse technical areas

  • Possess strong communication, critical thinking and team-building interpersonal skills
